Whether in the recording studio, featured on national stages or crafting a poignant song, Mariama Whyte has the secret recipe that is certain to satisfy even the most discerning palette. A 2020 recipient of the Room in the House Artist Residency with Karamu House and 2019 recipient of a Verge Fellowship by Cleveland Arts Prize, Mariama has played leading roles in the Broadway National tours of Oprah Winfrey Presents: The Color Purple and Disney's The Lion King. In her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, Mariama has performed in acclaimed productions at Dobama Theatre, Karamu House, Cleveland Public Theatre, and the Tony Award winning Cleveland Play House. Mariama has shared the stage with mega-producer David Foster and has opened for national artists, Stephanie Mills, Jeff Bradshaw, Algebra Blessett and Rahsaan Patterson. Mariama was immersed in music and performance as a child--studying voice, acting, piano and violin. It was clear to her early on that singing, acting and writing would be integral parts of her life and has since become a great performer, independent recording artist and profound songwriter. Born to a Jamaican father and an African-American mother, Mariama absorbed the sounds of soul, pop, reggae, jazz, hip-hop, Broadway, and gospel.  She effortlessly merges her sonic influences into her music and delivers unique and fresh sounds, evidenced in previous releases such as Find Your Light, I Need You, and Sweet Lovely Curse. She is now completing her new full length album, Hey You It's Me, due for a 2021 release. A mother and author as well, Mariama just released her debut ebook, Single Mother's Soul - Reflections for a Joyful and Empowered Life and her catchy, new single, This Mother’s Life.
