Not long ago, my wife and I moved our sofa which was in need of a quick repair. Upon moving the sofa, we discovered many ‘lost’ items, including pens, crumbs and coins, which had been collecting dust on the carpet underneath. It struck me that we have so much that we didn’t even feel the need to look for any of these items…

Compare that attitude to the woman in Luke 15:8-10 who lights a lamp and sweeps the house until she finds her one missing coin. After recovering her lost coin, she calls her neighbors and asks them to celebrate with her. She throws a party to celebrate something that was of great value to her…I guess her silver coin meant a whole lot more to her than that pen and nickel under my sofa.

Jesus tells the parable to have us think about how much He values people that are lost.

When it comes to the lost people of the world, we need to ask ourselves the question – are they like the lost silver coin in Luke 15 or the ‘lost’ nickel under a sofa in Lancaster? As we move closer to Vision 2012, I’m praying that we will value the lost people of the world and diligently seek them as the woman in Jesus’ parable sought her lost coin.

“…there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
